A national basketball tournament among students of sports schools is underway in Shymkent. Eleven teams representing different regions of Kazakhstan have gathered for the competition.
The tournament got off to an intense start, with young athletes demonstrating strong skills and a determination to win. Players are competing to represent their regions and secure the title of national champion.
According to Damira Auelbekova, head coach of the Shymkent men’s team, the tournament features young basketball players born between 2005 and 2012. Today’s schedule includes a match between the teams from Astana and Ulytau.
“Eleven teams from different regions of Kazakhstan have come to Shymkent for the tournament. Our main goal is to determine the champions of Kazakhstan. The games run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are two girls’ games and three boys’ games each day,” said Damira Auelbekova.
Tournament participant Perizat Zhumagali highlighted the high level of competition. Her team secured a victory over the Pavlodar team in one of the matches.
“The Pavlodar team also played at a very high level, but we managed to win this time. We are in a great mood after the victory. If we understand and support each other as a team, there are no goals we cannot achieve,” the young athlete said.
The four-day tournament will determine Kazakhstan’s top young basketball players and identify the strongest boys’ and girls’ teams from across the country.
