The Turkestan Region hosted an annual regional August education conference titled “Norms and Values of the New People’s Constitution: Human Capital Development as the Strategic Foundation of the Education System.”
An exhibition of innovative educational projects was held as part of the event. The conference brought together Turkestan Region Akim Nurlan Kusherov, education specialists, teachers, school principals, heads of educational institutions and representatives of parent communities.
Participants discussed preparations for the new academic year, improving the quality of education, professional development of teachers and the introduction of modern approaches to teaching and learning.
Addressing the conference, Akim Nurlan Kusherov highlighted the region’s achievements in education and outlined key objectives for the upcoming academic year. A number of education professionals who have made a significant contribution to the sector were presented with state awards and letters of appreciation.
The best representatives of the education sector were also awarded the “For Labor Distinction” and “Labor Veteran” medals, as well as the Ybyrai Altynsarin and “Excellence in Education” badges.
The region continues to modernize its education infrastructure. In 2024–2025, 29 comfortable schools were commissioned. Another 13 educational institutions are currently being constructed with funding from the regional budget. Between 2027 and 2029, the region plans to commission 58 additional education facilities with a total capacity of 16,830 student places. At the same time, 115 schools requiring major repairs and modernization are undergoing renovation.
The public foundation “Қазақстан халқына” is also providing substantial support to education in the region. From 2022 to 2025, the foundation implemented charitable projects worth more than KZT 12 billion in the Turkestan Region, including KZT 5.3 billion allocated specifically to education.
This year, with the foundation’s support, 100 rural schools are being equipped with 300 modern subject classrooms at a cost of KZT 5.1 billion. In the Zhetysai, Maktaaral, Keles and Saryagash districts, KZT 2.6 billion has also been allocated to equip “New Generation Centers” with modern robotics, arts and sports facilities. The centers will have a total capacity of 1,800 students.
Particular attention is being paid to the introduction of artificial intelligence into secondary education. In line with the Head of State’s instructions, funding has been allocated in the Turkestan Region for the next three years. The initiative will enable 145 small rural schools to receive advanced digital equipment and help reduce the gap in education quality between urban and rural areas.
Young people from the region continue to achieve strong results in national and international subject Olympiads and scientific project competitions. Last academic year, the Turkestan Region team won the Grand Prize at the national Olympiad for rural schools and was named the “Best Olympiad Team – 2025.”
During the plenary session, speakers discussed pressing issues facing the education sector and presented their proposals for its further development.
The August conference is traditionally a platform for reviewing the results of the previous academic year and setting key priorities for the year ahead.
According to the latest figures, 1,106 of the 7,896 schools registered nationwide are located in the Turkestan Region. The region also has 1,441 preschool education organizations, 43 colleges, 42 supplementary education institutions, 40 special education organizations, four children’s homes, three evening schools and two educational and production facilities.
