Governor of Kazakhstan’s Turkistan Region Nuralkhan Kusherov met with Izmir Mayor Cemil Tugay to discuss expanding interregional cooperation, attracting investment, and strengthening trade, tourism, and cultural ties.
During the meeting, Kusherov highlighted the Turkistan Region’s economic potential, investment opportunities, and major development projects being implemented with the support of Kazakhstan’s President. He emphasized the importance of elevating cooperation between the regions of Kazakhstan and Türkiye to a new level.
“Today’s meeting reflects the friendship, brotherhood, mutual trust, and strategic partnership between our countries at the regional level. Turkistan is the spiritual center of the Turkic world and is undergoing rapid development with strong government support. We are ready to exchange experience, implement joint investment initiatives, and expand comprehensive cooperation,” Kusherov said.
Izmir Mayor Cemil Tugay stressed the importance of the historical and cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Türkiye. He expressed interest in strengthening cooperation with the Turkistan Region through experience sharing and joint projects in investment, tourism, education, and urban development.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to further develop bilateral cooperation, identify concrete joint projects, and expand business partnerships.
Izmir is one of Türkiye’s leading industrial, commercial, logistics, and agricultural centers, recognized for its advanced manufacturing, international trade, maritime logistics, tourism, innovation, and modern urban management.
Kazakhstan and Türkiye continue to deepen their strategic partnership. During the first four months of 2026, bilateral trade reached USD 1.8 billion, including USD 1.4 billion in Kazakh exports and USD 454 million in imports. Trade turnover between the Turkistan Region and Türkiye amounted to USD 7 million, with USD 1 million in exports and USD 6 million in imports.
