The Almaty Region Health Department has launched an investigation following a complaint from the parents of a six-year-old boy.
The parents allege that their son contracted hepatitis C during a blood transfusion at the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, Orda reported, citing KTK TV.
According to the boy’s father, his son was admitted to the hospital after suffering a nosebleed. Following medical examinations, doctors diagnosed him with immune thrombocytopenia, a rare autoimmune disorder, and performed a blood transfusion.
The child was later referred to the Scientific Center of Pediatrics for further treatment. There, a PCR test detected the presence of hepatitis C.
The parents believe their son became infected during the blood transfusion at the hospital. The Almaty Region Health Department said an official investigation into the incident is currently underway.
