During a court hearing into the death of Nurai Serikbai, both the prosecution side representing the victim and the defense presented their positions and requests.
According to lawyers for the victim’s family, all 35 blows allegedly inflicted by defendant Sherkhan Aymakhan were delivered while Nurai was still alive.
The court was also told that Nurai’s family incurred expenses totaling 15,739,650 tenge following her death. The amount includes funeral and memorial expenses, including the janaza, beisenbilik and 100-day memorial ceremonies, as well as legal fees and airline tickets for trips to Almaty and Astana to visit the ministry.
The victim’s side said the recovered funds would subsequently be donated to charity.
During the hearing, the victim’s side asked the court to sentence Sherkhan Aymakhan to life imprisonment.
The defense, meanwhile, asked the court to acquit the defendant on the charges related to abduction and stalking. The defense argued that 76 phone calls should not in themselves be considered stalking.
The defense also asked the court to convict the defendant under Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The final decision in the case will be made by the court after considering the evidence and arguments presented by both sides.
