Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) has announced that it is accepting applications from international students for the Tokyo Global Partner Scholarship Program (Tokyo GP). The program provides talented students with an opportunity to continue their studies in Japan at the master’s or doctoral level. This was reported by Kazinform, citing the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Tokyo GP program aims to attract promising students from around the world, as well as promote international cooperation in education and research.
The program offers participants a number of benefits, including:
- full exemption from the admission (entrance examination) fee;
- exemption from the enrollment fee;
- full coverage of tuition fees;
- reimbursement of international airfare expenses;
- a monthly scholarship of 150,000 Japanese yen.
Who can apply?
The Tokyo GP program is open to students studying at TMU partner universities in Asian countries and regions. Employees of research organizations, government agencies, and companies in the respective countries are also eligible to apply.
The program offers study opportunities in various fields, including Science, Urban Environmental Sciences, Systems Design, Human Health Sciences, and others. However, some degree programs are offered exclusively in Japanese.
How to apply for the program
Applicants must complete the following steps:

2. Choose a field of study
Applicants should select the Graduate School at Tokyo Metropolitan University that corresponds to their preferred field of study.
3. Choose a degree program
Applicants can choose a Master’s or PhD program. To apply for a master’s program, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree. For doctoral studies, applicants must have a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
4. Check eligibility requirements for the Tokyo GP program
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.30.
They must also demonstrate English proficiency at CEFR B2 level or higher through an appropriate qualification or certified test result. Alternatively, applicants may demonstrate Japanese language proficiency at JLPT N2 level or higher.
In addition, applicants must meet the program’s geographical and partnership eligibility requirements.
5. Review the Application Guidelines of the selected Graduate School
The Application Guidelines contain information about the required documents, application deadlines, and submission procedures. Requirements and deadlines may vary depending on the Graduate School and the selected degree program.
6. Submit an application
Applicants must submit their application to the selected Graduate School at Tokyo Metropolitan University in accordance with the established procedure and within the specified deadlines.
7. Complete the selection and admission process
The selection procedure and requirements are determined by the relevant Graduate School. Applicants should therefore carefully review the Application Guidelines for their chosen program.
What does the scholarship cover?
Candidates who successfully pass the selection process will receive full exemption from the admission (entrance examination) fee, enrollment fee, and tuition fees under the Tokyo GP program.
Students will also receive a monthly scholarship of 150,000 Japanese yen. The cost of airfare to Japan and a return flight after completion of the program will also be covered.
In addition, the university provides assistance with finding accommodation.
