The “Abai Alemі” city contest dedicated to promoting the creative legacy of the great Kazakh poet, thinker and educator Abai Kunanbaiuly has concluded in Shymkent. The event was organized by the Centralized Public Library System of Shymkent under the city Department of Culture, Language Development and Archives.
The contest was held as part of the celebrations marking August 10 — Abai Day. It aimed to encourage young people to study Abai’s works more deeply, develop their public reading and artistic performance skills, foster creativity, and identify and support talented young people.
As part of the event, visitors were presented with a book exhibition titled “Abai’s Legacy — An Eternal Value.” The exhibition featured publications dedicated to the poet’s life, creative work and literary heritage.
The programme also included readings of Abai’s poems and performances of songs based on his works, offering guests an opportunity to explore and appreciate the poet’s rich spiritual legacy.
This year, 42 talented young people took part in the contest. Following the qualifying round, 15 participants advanced to the final, where they demonstrated their artistic abilities.
According to the jury’s decision, seven participants were named prize winners.
Grand Prix — Shanshar Isa Zhaksygeldiuly;
1st place — Kali Umbetali Bakhtiyaruly;
2nd place — Muslim Lazzat Shorakyzy and Ulbala Leskenkyzy;
3rd place — Gulzhanat Shakhydin, Turarbek Abildauly Makhanbetov and Angelina Andreevna Tolmacheva.
Other participants received certificates and incentive prizes in recognition of their contribution to the contest.
The event was attended by members of Shymkent’s creative and intellectual community, poets and writers, representatives of the Shymkent city branch of the Adilet party, members of the city Veterans Council, media representatives and library readers.
