The Turkistan Region continues to demonstrate strong growth in the agricultural sector, implementing the tasks set by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to diversify the economy, develop the agro-industrial complex, increase deep processing of agricultural products, attract investment, and expand export potential.
Under the coordination of Turkistan Region Governor Nuralhan Kusherov, systematic measures are being carried out to develop agriculture — from production and processing to increasing exports and entering international markets.
According to the results of January–June 2026, the region produced agricultural products worth 325.3 billion tenge. The physical volume index reached 110.7%, allowing Turkistan Region to take first place among the regions of Kazakhstan.
Agricultural Investment Increased 1.5 Times
Investment activity in the agro-industrial sector remains high. During the reporting period, 153.2 billion tenge was invested in agriculture, which is 1.5 times higher than during the same period last year.
The increase in investment contributes to the modernization of agricultural production, the launch of new enterprises, and the development of high value-added products.
In the first six months, food production reached 96.6 billion tenge, accounting for 126.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Growth was recorded across key processing industries:
- meat processing increased to 172.1%;
- production of vegetable oil and related products reached 136.7%;
- beverage production — 139.6%;
- flour and cereal production — 121.4%;
- fish processing — 121.4%;
- fruit and vegetable processing — 108.5%.
Agricultural Exports Doubled
The region has also achieved positive results in export development. Since the beginning of the year, Turkistan Region has exported 904.5 thousand tons of agricultural and processed products, which is twice as much as during the same period last year.
The export structure includes:
- 642.4 thousand tons of crop production;
- 25.8 thousand tons of livestock products;
- 236.3 thousand tons of processed goods.
Expansion of Agricultural Land and Water-Saving Technologies
To diversify agricultural production, the region increased cultivated areas by 8 thousand hectares, reaching a total of 919 thousand hectares in 2026.
The planted areas include:
- grain crops — 326 thousand hectares;
- oilseeds — 87 thousand hectares;
- vegetables — 42 thousand hectares;
- melons — 62 thousand hectares;
- potatoes — 12 thousand hectares;
- fodder crops — 228 thousand hectares;
- cotton — 162 thousand hectares.
As of July 21, farmers harvested:
- 242 thousand tons of grain crops;
- 583 thousand tons of vegetables;
- 750 thousand tons of melons;
- 207 thousand tons of potatoes;
- 3.2 million tons of fodder crops.
The region is also actively introducing water-saving technologies. This year, such technologies are planned to be implemented on an additional 50 thousand hectares. As a result, the total area using water-saving methods will reach 164 thousand hectares, allowing annual savings of about 280 million cubic meters of water.
Currently, water-saving technologies have already been introduced on 37 thousand hectares, achieving 74% of the planned target.
Turkistan Region Strengthens Its Position in Livestock Production
Turkistan Region remains one of Kazakhstan’s leading regions in livestock farming. The region accounts for:
- 13% of the country’s cattle population — 1.238 million head;
- 20% of sheep and goats — 5.211 million head;
- 10% of horses — 549 thousand head;
- 14% of camels — 46.1 thousand head.
During the first six months of the year, the region produced:
- 116.3 thousand tons of meat;
- 271.8 thousand tons of milk;
- 170.8 million eggs.
The development of livestock production directly contributes to export growth. Turkistan Region currently accounts for 80% of Kazakhstan’s exported beef and 75% of exported lamb.
During the reporting period, the region exported:
- 10.3 thousand tons of beef;
- 14.4 thousand tons of lamb.
The strong performance of the agro-industrial complex further strengthens Turkistan Region’s role as one of Kazakhstan’s key agricultural centers and contributes to sustainable economic development.
