A special concert titled “Great Abai — A Son of Humanity” was held at Shymcity Park as part of celebrations marking Abai Day on August 10.
Creative groups from Shymkent and well-known performers presented a special program for residents and visitors, featuring popular musical works by the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbaiuly.
The event aimed to promote Abai’s creative legacy, expand public interest in literature, poetry and music, and introduce audiences to the values of theatrical art.
The concert featured musical works inspired by Abai’s poetry and creative heritage. Artists from the Shymkent City Kazakh Drama Theatre named after Zh. Shanin presented a theatrical prologue titled “Abai Village.”
Soloists from the Shymkent Concert organization and the Shymkent City Opera and Ballet Theatre performed “Toybastar” from the opera “Abai” by composers Latif Khamidi and Akhmet Zhubanov. The choir performed the song “Karlygash.”
The program also included some of Abai’s most beloved songs, including “Aittim Salem, Kalamkas,” “Zhelsiz Tunde Zharyk Ai,” “Kozimnin Karasy” and other works.
Guests of the event also had an opportunity to experience excerpts from Abai’s “Words of Edification” and his poetry.
Abai’s legacy remains an enduring treasure of Kazakhstan’s spiritual and cultural heritage. A series of cultural events dedicated to Abai Day were held across Shymkent to promote the rich legacy of the great poet and thinker.
