As part of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s instruction to ensure the population has access to high-quality drinking water, another major infrastructure project has been completed in the Turkistan Region.
The long-awaited Shardara (Tama-Tastanbek) Group Water Pipeline has been commissioned in the city of Shardara.
Prior to the official ceremony marking the completion of the project, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev was briefed on the work being carried out in the Turkistan Region and plans for the coming period to provide residents with high-quality drinking water. The Vice Prime Minister was informed about the construction of drinking water supply facilities in the region, the current level of access to high-quality drinking water in populated areas, and projects planned for the next stage.
The official opening ceremony of the new facility was then held. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kanat Bozumbayev and Akim (Governor) of the Turkistan Region Nurlakhan Kusherov.
K. Bozumbayev noted that, in accordance with the President’s instruction, ensuring the population’s access to high-quality drinking water remains one of the Government’s key priorities. He congratulated the residents of Shardara on the completion of this long-awaited and important project.
The Akim of the Turkistan Region also shared the residents’ joy and emphasized that the project, implemented thanks to the President’s instruction and the support of the Government, is of historic significance for the region. The residents of Shardara now have full access to high-quality drinking water that meets sanitary requirements.
The foundation for the project was laid following geological exploration conducted in 2008–2009 at the Shardara-Bayyrkum groundwater deposit. According to Protocol No. 893-09-U of the State Commission on Mineral Reserves of the Republic of Kazakhstan, dated December 10, 2009, the groundwater reserves were approved for a period of 25 years. The results of the study confirmed that the bacteriological, radiological, and chemical parameters of the groundwater at the Tama-Tastanbek site fully comply with sanitary requirements.
As a result of the project, all 31,000 residents of the city of Shardara now have access to high-quality drinking water. The designed capacity of the water pipeline is 24,000 cubic metres per day. As part of the construction, two main polyethylene water pipelines with a diameter of 500 millimetres and a total length of 39.28 kilometres were laid. In addition, two water reservoirs with a capacity of 500 cubic metres each and two reservoirs with a capacity of 5,000 cubic metres each were constructed. The project also included the drilling of 14 water intake wells, including 12 operational and two reserve wells. Two pumping stations and water treatment facilities were installed, and all engineering systems have been fully commissioned.
Residents of Shardara who attended the commissioning ceremony expressed their gratitude to the Head of State, the Government, and everyone who contributed to the implementation of the project.
In accordance with the President’s instruction, work to provide the population of the Turkistan Region with high-quality drinking water, modernize engineering infrastructure, and improve the quality of life of citizens will continue in stages.
