The main suspect in the embezzlement of KZT 2.5 billion from the Forensic Examination Center under Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Justice has been extradited from Vietnam to Kazakhstan. His alleged accomplices have already been convicted and sentenced.
According to investigators, the suspect fled Kazakhstan after the crime was committed. In March 2025, he was placed on an international wanted list, and a Kazakh court authorized his arrest in absentia.
He was detained in Vietnam in early 2026 and subsequently extradited to Kazakhstan. The criminal case has now been referred to court for trial.
Investigators believe the embezzlement took place during the implementation of the 2023–2025 National Plan to Combat Drug Abuse and Drug Trafficking. As part of the program, more than KZT 10 billion was allocated from the state budget to purchase equipment for forensic examination authorities. According to the investigation, KZT 2.5 billion of those funds was allegedly misappropriated.
