Since the beginning of 2026, social inspectors from Kazakhstan’s Committee for Regulation and Control in the Field of Social Protection have inspected 609 public facilities to ensure compliance with accessibility legislation aimed at creating a barrier-free environment.
Of the total inspections, 205 were unscheduled, 291 were conducted as part of preventive monitoring, and 113 were carried out at the request of the prosecutor’s office.
As a result, inspectors issued 394 compliance orders requiring identified violations to be corrected. Administrative measures were also imposed on those who failed to meet legal requirements, with 200 fines totaling more than KZT 47.4 million.
The inspections covered a wide range of facilities frequently visited by the public, including 68 government and quasi-government organizations, 41 healthcare facilities, 127 educational institutions, 280 social protection facilities, four cultural institutions, five sports venues, five transport infrastructure sites, five public catering establishments, 32 retail facilities, four financial service organizations, and 38 other public facilities.
Authorities emphasized that the inspections are aimed not only at identifying violations but also at ensuring they are addressed promptly. As a result, many facilities have already installed wheelchair ramps, upgraded entrance areas, added handrails, and introduced other accessibility features to improve access for people with disabilities.
As part of this initiative, the regional department of the Committee for Regulation and Control in the Field of Social Protection in Turkistan Region also carried out unscheduled inspections of socially significant facilities to assess their accessibility for people with limited mobility. Following the inspections, facility owners were instructed to eliminate identified violations, while responsible officials faced administrative measures in accordance with national legislation.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Kazakhstan stated that efforts to improve accessibility and monitor compliance with accessibility standards will continue. The initiative is aimed at ensuring equal opportunities and improving access to public services for all citizens.
