Kazakhstan continues to develop its modern organ donation and transplantation system, according to Aidar Sitkazinov, Director of the Republican Center for the Coordination of Transplantation and High-Tech Medical Services under the Ministry of Health. He made the announcement during a briefing at the Central Communications Service.
The country’s organ donation and transplantation system is based on close cooperation between government agencies. The Republican Center coordinates the nationwide transplantation program and oversees the development of high-tech medical services.
According to Sitkazinov, more than 40 donor organizations are currently operating across Kazakhstan. Each region has inpatient transplant coordinators, while five HLA laboratories located at blood centers conduct compatibility testing to match organ donors with recipients.
Kazakhstan now has 11 transplantation centers, up from nine a year earlier, reflecting the country’s continued investment in transplant medicine.
The Ministry of Health reported improving transplantation outcomes. In 2025, a total of 68 organ transplants from deceased donors were performed nationwide.
The number of living-donor transplants has also been increasing steadily. In 2025, doctors carried out 242 living-related transplant procedures. During the first six months of 2026, Kazakhstan registered eight deceased donors, completed 30 transplants from deceased donors, and performed 121 transplant operations involving living donors.
Health officials say the expansion of donor organizations and transplant centers is expected to improve access to life-saving organ transplantation services across Kazakhstan.
