Election observation for the upcoming Kurultai elections was discussed with representatives of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR).
A meeting between Vice Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yevgeny Kochetov and Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission Vincent Picquet was held at the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan.
The parties discussed preparations for monitoring the election campaign and the elections to the unicameral Parliament – the Kurultai, which will take place on August 23 and will be the first elections held following the adoption of the new Constitution.
Special attention was paid to ensuring openness and transparency, as well as providing information support throughout the electoral process. During the meeting, Vice Minister Yevgeny Kochetov emphasized that Kazakhstan’s new Constitution strengthens the country’s consistent course toward the development of democracy, civil society, and the protection of citizens’ rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests.
He also highlighted the importance of constructive cooperation with international observation missions, including the OSCE/ODIHR.
In turn, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission Vincent Picquet said that 22 long-term observers have been deployed to Kazakhstan to monitor the electoral process.
According to the mission, the first interim report is scheduled for August 7 and will be based on observations of the election campaign.
The final report will be prepared after the elections. The participants of the meeting confirmed their interest in further constructive cooperation during the preparation and conduct of the Kurultai elections.
