The State Academic Dance Theatre of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be named after its founder, the outstanding choreographer Bulat Ayukhanov.
The decision was made in accordance with the instruction of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The name of Bulat Ayukhanov is inseparably linked with the development of chamber ballet in Kazakhstan. In 1967, he founded the “Young Ballet of Alma-Ata”, the first ensemble of its kind in the country, which later gained recognition far beyond Kazakhstan’s borders. The theatre performed in the republics of the Soviet Union, as well as in European and Scandinavian countries.
For decades, the company has continued to develop the artistic traditions established by its founder. Bulat Ayukhanov’s productions have become part of the golden heritage of Kazakhstan’s choreographic art, while the school he created has trained several generations of performers.
The decision to name the theatre after Bulat Ayukhanov carries special symbolic significance as the institution begins its 60th theatrical season. Ahead of its 60th anniversary in 2027, the theatre continues to preserve and develop the creative legacy of its founder, combining the best traditions of Kazakhstan’s ballet school with the advancement of classical, national, neoclassical, and contemporary choreography.
