An open chess tournament dedicated to International Chess Day, celebrated on July 20, is being held in the city of Turkistan.
The competition has brought together residents of the city and chess players from different districts of the Turkistan Region to compete for victory.
The main goal of the tournament is to promote chess, develop mass sports, encourage young people to lead a healthy lifestyle, and strengthen a culture of prevention against drug-related issues.
The competition is being held across several age categories. Young chess players, including boys and girls under the ages of 12 and 14, as well as senior participants aged 50 and above, are taking part in the tournament.
As part of the event, a special exhibition dedicated to the sporting achievements of Turkistan’s distinguished athletes — Sultankhan Nurislam and Asylkhan Assiya, champions of Kazakhstan and Asia and silver medalists of the World Championship — was presented to visitors.
The official opening ceremony was attended by Madiyar Baktibayuly Alipov, Deputy Mayor of Turkistan. He wished all participants success and emphasized the important role of chess in developing the intellectual abilities, strategic thinking, and creativity of the younger generation.
Following the results of the tournament, winners and prize holders will be awarded diplomas, medals, and valuable prizes.
