Almaty hosted the first inspection visit of the delegation from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) as part of the preparations for the 10th Asian Winter Games 2029. The international inspection was attended by Serik Zharasbayev, Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As part of the working program, a series of meetings was held with representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Almaty City Administration, the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, and the Olympic Council of Asia. The discussions focused on the preparation of sports infrastructure, the organization of competitions, and the fulfillment of the host city’s commitments. International experts also inspected the venues that will host the Games.
The delegation visited ice arenas, sports complexes, and mountain cluster facilities, including the Medeu High-Mountain Sports Complex, the Shymbulak Ski Resort, the Sunkar International Ski Jumping Complex, Halyk Arena, Almaty Arena, and the Baluan Sholak Sports Palace. During the site visits, participants discussed the operational readiness of the venues, further infrastructure upgrades, logistics, accommodation for athletes and officials, the organization of technical areas, and compliance with the requirements of international winter sports federations. Following the inspection, representatives of the Olympic Council of Asia gave a positive assessment of Almaty’s preparations for the Games.
The first inspection visit marked an important milestone in the joint efforts of Kazakhstan and the Olympic Council of Asia to prepare for the continent’s largest winter sporting event. At the conclusion of the meetings, the parties outlined the next stages of cooperation and approved the schedule for future inspection visits.
It should be recalled that the 10th Asian Winter Games will be held in 2029 in Astana and Almaty, bringing together Asia’s top winter sports athletes.
