A total of 1,114 sanitary facilities are currently operating along Kazakhstan’s national highways. Of these, 180 are heated facilities, while 934 are unheated.
The development of roadside sanitary infrastructure is an important part of creating comfortable conditions for drivers and passengers, particularly during long-distance travel.
Work to expand the sanitary infrastructure is ongoing. In 2025, 37 sanitary facilities were installed along national highways. By the end of 2026, another 13 heated facilities are planned to be added.
New facilities are being located based on traffic intensity, the specific characteristics of road sections and the actual needs of road users.
More than 1,400 roadside service facilities
There are 1,443 roadside service facilities along Kazakhstan’s national highways. These include petrol stations, food outlets, campgrounds, accommodation facilities and other service points.
Many of these facilities also have sanitary facilities available for drivers and passengers.
Sanitary conditions regularly maintained
Maintenance and sanitation of the facilities are carried out on a regular basis. Their condition is overseen by employees of KazAvtoZhol Service LLP, as well as owners and tenants of roadside service facilities.
The frequency of cleaning is determined based on traffic intensity and the number of users.
These measures are aimed at maintaining roadside sanitary infrastructure to an appropriate standard and providing more comfortable conditions for drivers and passengers traveling across the country.
