ZHETISU REGION, Kazakhstan — Police have detained a 41-year-old resident of Zharkent who allegedly stole more than 600 chocolate bars from a shopping center over the course of a month.
According to investigators, the suspect entered the store posing as a regular customer. Surveillance footage showed him hiding chocolate bars in his pockets and bag before leaving the store without paying.
He reportedly returned just minutes later and repeated the same scheme several times a day, visiting the store up to five or six times on certain days.
In total, 625 chocolate bars were stolen during the month, causing financial losses of more than 530,000 tenge to the retailer.
Police identified and detained the suspect, who admitted his guilt during questioning.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
