Kazakhstan’s national team delivered an impressive performance at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2026) in Tashkent. All four members of the team won medals — one gold and three silver — highlighting the strong level of Kazakhstan’s IT education.
In the world team standings, Kazakhstan placed 10th, marking one of the country’s best results in the history of its participation in the competition.
Maksim Tsoi, a 12th-grade student at Spectrum International School in Astana, won a gold medal and finished fifth in the individual world rankings, placing him among the top five young programmers in the world.
The silver medalists were Aldiyar Seitbay, an 11th-grade student at the Bilim-Innovation Specialized Boarding Lyceum for Gifted Children in Astana; Mansur Mamadakhunov, an 11th-grade student at the Bilim-Innovation Specialized Boarding Lyceum for Gifted Children in Kyzylorda Region; and Askar Akezhan, a 12th-grade student at the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Semey.
The Kazakhstan team was led by head coach Temirlan Satylkhanov, a lecturer at Astana IT University, and senior lecturer Kuanyshbai Aibar from the International University of Information Technology.
In 2025, Kazakhstani schoolchildren won three silver and one bronze medal, placing 14th in the world team standings. This year, the national team improved its position by four places.
Throughout Kazakhstan’s participation in the International Olympiad in Informatics, the country’s schoolchildren have won a total of 79 medals.
