Kazakhstan’s men’s national fencing team has achieved a historic result at the Senior World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong.
Just minutes ago, the Kazakh team, consisting of Ruslan Kurbanov, Yerlik Sertay, Kirill Prokhodov and Vadim Sharlaimov, faced Ukraine in the final.
In a tense battle for the gold medal, Kazakhstan defeated Ukraine 45–40, securing the country’s first-ever World Championship title in fencing.
The victory also marked the first time in history that Kazakhstan’s men’s national fencing team has reached the final of the World Championships. Until today, the team’s best result had been a bronze medal won at last year’s World Championships in Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi. At that tournament, the Kazakh fencers achieved a historic victory over one of the world’s leading fencing teams, France.
