On August 29, Aktau will host the national shubat festival “SHUBAT FEST-2026.” The festival aims to identify the best shubat producers in Kazakhstan, promote the traditional drink and showcase products of camel farming.
The festival has been included in the national calendar of tourism events for 2026 approved by the relevant ministry, as well as in the National Events Calendar. This highlights its importance in promoting Kazakhstan’s tourism potential.
The main competition will determine the country’s best shubat producer. Special categories will also recognize products made from camel milk, including kurt, balkaymak, desserts, ice cream, as well as coffee and cocktails made with camel milk.
Individuals and legal entities, as well as peasant and farm enterprises producing camel-farming products, are eligible to participate. Twenty participants will advance to the final. Their shubat samples will be sent to an independent accredited laboratory to assess quality and safety indicators.
The winners of the main competition will be determined based on a combined score in three areas: public voting — 20%, the independent laboratory’s assessment — 40%, and the professional jury’s evaluation — 40%. The judging criteria will include the product’s physicochemical and microbiological characteristics, taste, consistency, aroma and presentation.
The winners of the main competition will receive cash prizes of KZT 1 million, KZT 700,000 and KZT 500,000. The Grand Prix winner will receive a car. Cash prizes will also be awarded in the special categories.
The festival will conclude with a gala concert featuring popular performers. Public voting will also be held as part of the event. Organizers expect the festival to attract between 20,000 and 25,000 visitors.
“SHUBAT FEST-2026” is intended to promote shubat as a national gastronomic brand, support Kazakhstan’s camel-breeding industry and highlight the potential of the Mangystau Region for gastronomic tourism.
