The Abai Academy at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University was established in 2019 by Presidential Decree. Since then, the academy has published 94 scholarly monographs.
The publications include research not only by scholars from ENU, but also by Abai studies researchers from different regions of Kazakhstan. This was announced by Aiman Aktanova, Academic Secretary of the Abai Academy Research Institute at ENU and Candidate of Philological Sciences, during a briefing at the Central Communications Service.
According to her, the academy’s research goes beyond philology and also covers philosophy and psychology. For example, the multi-volume study “Abai’s Society” examines the role of Abai’s legacy in contemporary society and explores ways of applying the poet’s works in the modern context.
Aiman Aktanova noted that Abai studies has developed new academic directions during the years of Kazakhstan’s independence.
“The Academy’s collection includes works by Tursyn Zhurtbai, Zhangar Dadabayeva, Shakir Ibrayev, Zhanat Askerbek and other scholars. Some of these studies focus on the hermeneutic analysis of Abai’s works. This approach makes it possible to explore in depth the meaning and use of every word in the poet’s writings,” the speaker said at the press conference.
The academy’s publications contribute to the continued development of Abai studies and the broader academic understanding of the poet’s literary, philosophical and cultural legacy.
