Another new region may appear on the administrative-territorial map of Kazakhstan. Tugyr.kzz – information portal announced this on its social page.
Proposals and information about the reconstruction of the South Kazakhstan region and the designation of the city of Saryagash as its center are being actively discussed online and among experts. If this initiative is implemented, it is expected that the new region will include a number of densely populated areas of Turkestan region.
The main reason for the reform is related to the changes of 2018. Then Shymkent received the status of a city of republican significance, and the regional center was moved to Turkestan. However, the geographical extent of the Turkestan region and the density of the population create the need to optimize the management system. It is no accident that Saryagash was chosen as the center of the newly created region. Saryagash district is one of the most populous and demographically growing regions in the country. In addition, this transit region, bordering Uzbekistan, is located at a very effective point from the point of view of logistics and transit, and there is a well-developed resort-tourist cluster, greenhouse farming, and trade near the border.
