Kazakhstan continues systematic efforts to expand the coverage of medium-scale repairs on national roads as part of a presidential directive. The country aims to carry out medium-scale repairs on 10,000 km of the national road network by the end of 2028.
Taking into account completed and ongoing projects, the total length of roads covered by medium-scale repairs has reached 8,470 km, or approximately 85% of the target. The remaining sections are planned to be repaired in 2027–2028.
The large-scale road repair programme has been implemented in stages since 2024. During the first year of the programme, 959 km of roads were completed and opened to traffic following repairs. In 2025, another 2,320 km were commissioned. Thus, a total of 3,279 km of national roads underwent medium-scale repairs in 2024–2025.
The scope of work increased significantly in 2026. This year, 3,679 km of roads are being repaired under 124 projects. Of these, 29 projects covering a total of 1,451 km are scheduled to continue into 2027.
Additional medium-scale repairs on national roads are being financed through toll revenues collected from motorists using toll roads. In 2026, 38 projects covering a total of 1,512 km are planned to be implemented using these funds.
The programme is aimed at improving road safety, enhancing transport accessibility in the regions, reducing transportation costs and improving the overall quality of road infrastructure.
By the end of 2028, repairing 10,000 km of national roads will remain one of the key priorities in modernising Kazakhstan’s national road network.
